THE SONIC BOOM ARCHIVE
Project description and exhibition samples

Sonic Boom Containment Vessel
The CLUI Desert Research Station
Hinkley, CA June 2006 - indefinitely

Now part of the CLUI Experimental Walking Tour at the Desert Research Station, providing information about the Harper Lake Basin region. The region includes the airspace above, in this context, the R-2508 Special Use Airspace Complex where the sonic booms occur. This installation consists of a small modular office unit outfitted with audio equipment, where irregular playback of recent recorded booms occurs under the same airspace where the recordings are made. More at CLUI.

EXHIBITION

These recordings have been exhibited publicly as part of two collaborative installations with SIMPARCH:
"Gloom and Doom 2," as a 60 minute sound composition entitled "Tactile Air 2"
"Gloom and Doom 1," as a 10 minute sound composition entitled "Tactile Air 1"

Updated on June 2007: The recording phase of this project is ongoing, and a playback of recent booms is being exhibited indefinitely at the CLUI Desert Research Station in the newly constructed "Sonic Boom Containment Vessel".
